Investing in gold?

I am looking to invest in gold. But the problem is I have little knowledge of it. And my question is, how do I invest in gold through E*trade or any of the other online trading companies? Looking to get company names and/or symbols. Whatever i can use.

      Besides the GLD …a good precious metals fund is GGN… with a little in platinum, palladium, silver etc.
